Thank you for downloading this playable demo!
================================================

I've been having problems with the IPS patch, therefore I have included the actual ROM image.

General notes on version .5

I tried to keep everything more or less intact with the game play.

There is no method I know of as of yet to replace the in-game text.

Sprite modding is time-consuming which is why this project is taking so long.

A Call For Sprite Modders!
Wanna participate in this project? I REALLY need some help on this project if it is to get finished. I recently graduated from college and am looking for work. Unemployment issues as well as a recent move have put a damper on this project. If you know how to sprite mod, use Tile Layer Pro, Graphics Gale (or Photoshop in indexed color mode), and know how to use the SNES palette editor, let me know. I have over 100 pixelated assets you can use as a base for future character animations. If interested, send me a note on my DA account http://botchos.deviantart.com/ and include "Super Pony All-stars" in the subject line. Share some details about your experience and which aspects of this project you might be able to help with. If you know how to alter compressed in-game text, or SNES SPC audio, that would be great too--I don't just need help with sprite animations.

You don't have to be an expert, just willing to learn and participate. Most of the really hard stuff like the game title screen and the game-select screen are finished. It's just time-consuming sprite work at this point which I personally am running out of time to do.

Notes on SMB1 and Side B:

Octavia is taller than Vinyl in the "continue" and "time up" screens in SMB1 and Side B. This was a simple mistake on my part but I don't wish to return to the sprite at this time.

The enemies share their 16-color palette array with several other assets, making sprite modding of the enemies difficult. Powerups also share indexes on their palette arrays with other assets.

The flag that rises over the small keep at the end of each stage is supposed to the Ponyville flag. It shares its palette with Koopatroopers and other background assets, however. I used Photoshop to manipulate the Ponyville flag to make it look like it was waving but there's only so much that can be done with a 16x16 pixel image and a limited number of colors, none of which closely match the flag vector.

Octavia can at times look blocky. This is especially so when swimming as filly Octavia.

The game play retains the feel of Super Mario Brothers for the most part. Ponies just make it more interesting.

Notes on SMB2

I intend to use herooftime1000's original assets from his 2011 hack of the 8-bit version of the game. I have completed only a small portion of the animations.

Sunset Shimmer needs more contrast between her coat color and outline.

Trixe needs better color balancing. Her hat may need to be redone.

Twilight Sparkle's doesn't sway when running.

Derpy looks too, shall I say, gumpy.

The final boss will be King Sombra.

Not sure if I will just copy over herooftime1000's boss assets.

The sleeping animation at the end of the game will be tricky but it can be done.

Notes on SMB3

If you are brave enough to look through the ROM image, you'll notice that SMB3 has its sprite data spread all over the place. None of it makes sense. Hence, this project will require multiple people if it is ever to see the light of day.

Mario will be replaced by Celestia

Luigi will be replaced by Luna.

There is a curious palette issue regarding the Battle Mode versus the regular game. Mario seems to have the same palette while Luigi seems to have separate palettes for Battle Mode and the normal game. Hence, I think it might be possible to have LYRA and BON BON in the Battle mode!!

Celestia's colors in the show seem like they might contain the necessary colors to colorize Lyra! There are separate sprites in the Battle Mode versus the regular game so the SMB3-applied sprites can be Celestia, while the Battle Mode sprites can be Lyra. (It could be done but it would be tricky.) Luna and Bon Bon should be a cinch.

I have always wanted to see Luna in Caribo's Shoe.

Bowser will be Tireck
